Class 2 maths: games and practice for ages 6–7
Class 2 builds on counting with the first real arithmetic: carrying and borrowing, the idea of multiplication as repeated groups, and sharing as the start of division. The year covers topics from the NCERT Class 2 maths syllabus such as numbers up to 100 and into the hundreds, addition and subtraction with regrouping, tables of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10, money in rupees and paise, measuring length, weight and capacity, time and simple data. Below you can see each topic with the Maths Guru games that practise it. Maths Guru is an independent tool and is not endorsed by NCERT.

Tips for parents of Class 2 children
- Check place value first. Children who are unsure why 47 is four tens and seven ones struggle with carrying, so use bundles of ten sticks to show it.
- Learn tables through patterns, not rote alone: 2s are doubles, 5s end in 0 or 5, 10s add a zero. Our tables page lists them all.
- Turn daily errands into sums: how much is two samosas at ₹12 each, how many biscuits if we share 15 among 3?
- When an answer is wrong, ask your child to explain the steps aloud. The mistake is usually in one small step, and finding it themselves sticks.
Questions parents ask
What should a Class 2 child know in maths?
Numbers to 100 and a bit beyond, two-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping, tables of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10, simple sharing, money, length and time.
My child is slow at carrying and borrowing. What helps?
Go back to place value with objects, then practise short sets daily. Games with timers can wait until accuracy is comfortable.
