Classroom: a live maths quiz-show for the whole class

Classroom turns a maths lesson, a coaching class or a family game night into a live quiz-show. A teacher or parent hosts a quiz, everyone joins with a 6-letter code, and the group races through the same questions while scores climb a live leaderboard. It finishes on a top-three podium.

How to play

  1. The host logs in, picks one or more topics, a year group and 5, 10 or 20 questions, and creates a room.
  2. The host reads out the 6-letter room code. Students open Classroom, choose Join a Class, type the code and pick a nickname. Students do not need an account.
  3. Once everyone has joined, the host starts the quiz. Every student gets the same questions.
  4. Points are scored for correct answers and the live leaderboard updates on the host's big screen.
  5. The host can show the final podium and then review each question to see how the class did.

Maths skills it builds

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Fractions, decimals and percentages
  • BODMAS
  • Word problems
  • Speed and accuracy

Why it works

A shared leaderboard turns practice into an event, and the host decides the topics, so the quiz fits whatever the class has just been learning. After the quiz, a question-by-question review shows the host which questions the class found hardest, which makes it a useful starter or plenary and not only a game.

Questions parents ask

Do students need an account?

No. Students join with the room code and a nickname, with no login. Only the host needs to log in.

Which topics can the host choose?

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, mixed operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, BODMAS and word problems. You can pick several at once, or all of them.

How many students can play at once?

A class joins one room. Joining closes once the quiz has started or the room is full, so have everyone join before you press start.

Can parents use it at home?

Yes. A parent can host for family game night in exactly the same way, with each child joining on their own device.
