Estimation Olympics: win medals for close guesses
Estimation Olympics scores children on how close their guess is, not on right or wrong. Each run has 6 events such as counting a flash of dots, dropping a number on a line or guessing the sweets in a jar, and finishes with a stadium medal ceremony. It builds the number sense that mental maths depends on.

- Pick a band: Rookie (numbers up to 20), Pro (up to 100), Champion (up to 1,000) or Legend (up to 10,000).
- Play 6 events per run. They include Dot Storm, Number Line Drop, Jar of Joy, Quick Length, Colour Split (what percentage of the dots are that colour) and Time It (stop the clock at the right second).
- Trust your eyes and lock in a guess. The closer you are, the more points you score, up to 100 per event.
- Totals out of 600 earn medals: bronze from 240, silver from 360 and gold from 480.
- Come back for the Daily Olympiad, the same challenge for everyone that day, and keep your streak. You can also challenge a friend to beat your score.

Why it works
Estimation is the quiet skill behind quick mental maths and checking whether an answer is sensible, but it is rarely practised on its own. Scoring by closeness means every guess earns something, so children who worry about wrong answers can relax and try. Seeing the real answer after each guess helps them tune their instinct over time.

Questions parents ask
What is estimation and why does it matter?
Estimation is making a sensible approximate guess without counting exactly. It helps children judge whether an answer is reasonable and underpins mental calculation, rounding and measurement.
Is there a right or wrong answer?
No. Every guess scores by how close it is to the true value, so even an imperfect estimate earns points.
Can guests play?
Yes. Guests can play the Rookie band, which uses numbers up to 20. Signing up unlocks Pro, Champion and Legend and saves medals in the Trophy Cabinet.
What is the Daily Olympiad?
A daily challenge that is the same for every player that day. You can see how your best score compares with other players and keep a day streak going.
