Tips for parents of Class 3 children

  • Make tables automatic. Ten minutes a day on one table, mixing forwards, backwards and out of order, is better than a weekend cram. See the tables 1 to 20 page for patterns.
  • Teach the link between multiplication and division. If 7 × 8 = 56, then 56 ÷ 8 = 7 and 56 ÷ 7 = 8: one fact, four sentences.
  • Read word problems aloud together and underline the question. Most wrong answers in Class 3 come from solving a different question than the one asked.
  • Use real prices from your kirana shop or vegetable seller to practise rupees and change. Estimating the total before adding is a superb habit.
