Class 5 is the last primary year and a bridge to middle school. Children work with numbers into the lakhs, multiply and divide with confidence, add and compare fractions, meet decimals, find factors and multiples, and measure area and volume. This page covers topics from the NCERT Class 5 maths syllabus such as large numbers, the four operations, parts and wholes, tenths and hundredths, symmetry, area and boundary, maps, patterns and data. We pair each topic with Maths Guru games below. Maths Guru is an independent practice tool and is not endorsed by NCERT.

Tips for parents of Class 5 children

  • Revise tables up to 12 and squares up to 15. They make factors, multiples, fractions and area calculations noticeably faster.
  • Link fractions and decimals to money: ₹0.50 is half a rupee, ₹2.25 is two and a quarter rupees. The connection clicks quickly.
  • Encourage multi-step word problems on paper, one line per step. Neat working is how children find their own mistakes.
  • For scholarship and olympiad exams, mix topics in short timed sets once a week, and then review every wrong answer together.

Questions parents ask

Tenths and hundredths are introduced in Class 5 in the NCERT books, which is why decimals practice is useful now.

Can Maths Guru help with olympiad or scholarship practice?
