Battalion Crossfire: place the chariots, plan the volleys

Battalion Crossfire is a line-of-fire deduction puzzle. Players post a fleet of royal (teal) and raider (crimson) chariots on a battlefield, where archers fire sideways along whole rows and columns, and must find the one formation that meets the objective.

How to play

  1. Drag every chariot from the tray onto the battlefield. Rivers and ravines are out of bounds.
  2. Archers fire from both flanks, never front or back. A chariot's horses show its heading.
  3. A volley flies straight until it reaches the first chariot or boulder, and hits an enemy there. Friendly chariots and boulders block it, and low bushes are flown over.
  4. Tap a placed chariot to turn it so its volleys fire the other way.
  5. Each band is one objective: Ceasefire, Royal Victory, Raider Ambush or Total War. Meet it with the one perfect formation for 3 stars.

Maths skills it builds

  • Logical deduction
  • Spatial reasoning
  • Rows, columns and lines of sight
  • Planning ahead

Why it works

Children have to trace lines across a grid and reason about what blocks what, which is the same careful, rule-based thinking used in coordinate geometry and programming. The four objectives change what a correct answer looks like, so the puzzle stays fresh across its 100 levels.
