Str8ts: fill the grid with straights
Str8ts is a Sudoku-like number puzzle with a twist. Black cells split rows and columns into compartments, and each compartment must hold consecutive numbers (a straight) in any order, while no number repeats in any row or column.

How to play
- Fill every white cell with a number. Black cells divide rows and columns into compartments.
- Each compartment must contain consecutive numbers in any order. A 1-cell compartment accepts any single number.
- No number may appear twice in a row or column, counting all the white cells across the whole line.
- A black cell showing a number is a clue: that number cannot appear in the white cells of its row or column.
- Fill short compartments first, and use Check sparingly: you only get 3 attempts.
Maths skills it builds
- Number order and sequences
- Logical deduction
- Elimination
- Consecutive numbers
Why it works
Str8ts keeps children thinking about number order, since a compartment is valid only if its numbers are consecutive, and also about elimination across a whole row or column. Black-cell clues add an extra layer of deduction that rewards careful reading.
