How to play
- The numbers are shuffled in a grid with one empty space.
- Tap any tile directly next to the empty space (up, down, left or right) and it slides into the gap.
- Arrange the tiles in order, left to right and top to bottom.
- Aim for fewer moves than the par target. 3 stars means solved at or below par, 2 stars up to double par, and 1 star for any completed solve.
- Fewer moves means a higher score and more XP.
Maths skills it builds
- Number order
- Planning ahead
- Efficiency and optimisation
- Spatial reasoning
Why it works
Putting numbers in order is simple, but doing it in few moves means thinking about where each tile has to travel. The par target gives children a clear goal to beat, which encourages them to replay and improve. Grids of 3×3 (8 tiles), 4×4 (15 tiles) and 5×5 (24 tiles) give a long runway.
